Background : Chlamydia trachomatis is the most prevalent bacterial sexually transmitted infection wordwild. Chlamydia testing of urine samples is noninvasive and could overcome several barriers to screening for chlamydial infections, but most test samples are obtained directly from the cervix or urethra.
Purpose : To determine Chlamydia trachomatis in urin specimen and endocervix swab in non specific genital infection patients.
Methods : A cross sectional study was conducted on September 2009 in Putat Jaya public health centre Surabaya on 22 commercial sex workers who suffer from non specific genital infection (NSGI). Sample of endocervical were collected with cytobrush and first void urine were collected to perform Polimerase Chain Reaction (PCR) with AMPLICOR PCR Kit to detect Chlamydia infection. The result was noted in table and counted the percentage.
Result : Chlamydia trachomatis was positive on 14 endocervical swab and
(63,6%) and 16 urine specimen (72,7%) from 22 sample with non specific genital infection.
Conclusion : Results of polymerase chain reaction tests for C. trachomatis on urine samples higher to those obtained on samples collected directly from the cervix. It is possible to consider the possibility using urin specimen as non invasive sample to determine Chlamydia trachomatis infection.
